From a technical perspective, thin-film solar panels are primarily based on the photoelectric effect. When light shines on the surface of a material, electrons in the material absorb photon energy and transition to the conduction band, thus generating an electric current. Depending on the materials used, thin-film solar panels can be categorized into several types, such as amorphous silicon thin-film batteries, copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) thin-film batteries, and cadmium telluride (CdTe) thin-film batteries. Each material has its unique performance characteristics; for example, amorphous silicon thin-film batteries have good performance in low-light conditions, while CIGS thin-film batteries exhibit higher conversion efficiency and stability.
